And if you think more deeply - at its core "Midnight Mass" is a masterpiece which will probably won't be understood by many. Also there is a speech between characters about what happens after death - its one of the best dialogs and acting i saw in years. The ending of a show was amazing and kept me thinking about the whole thing i saw and heard. And what a "miracle" can do to a one person who truly was a believer whole his life and whole his life he was working for god but saw no consequences for doing good. Its a bit of a mystery drama and at its core it is a series about fate and what would happen if any of us would get a second chance. Overall, without spoiling it much, i can say that "Midnight Mass" is not a horror series. Also it was a dialog heavy show - there a lot of monologs were characters are just speaking for like 10 minutes straight. Acting was amazing by whole cast, but exceptions were Samantha Sloyan and Hamish Linklater - they were both out of this world good, some award must by won here. Its starts as a drama, then it moves to a mystery and by the end when everything was reveled i was fascinated by it for its idea, concept and plot. Yet "Midnight Mass" is not a horror show. Directing by Mike Flanagan of which I'm a fan was amazing - he is definitely my favorite director when it comes to horror genre. Yet as not being much religious person myself i would like to say that its a highly rewording experience to watch this show - its way more then it looks like. I will spoil nothing, but the whole concept and plot is highly religious. Sounds epic yet on the surface this show was about people on a island trapped in some things that goes beyond usual. "Midnight Mass" was a terrific series about life, death, love, and loss. It's not perfect, but it's ambition has to be admired. ![]() This show will have me thinking for a long while yet. I've never seen a story dive so deeply into the complexities of personal faith and organised religion to the extent or with the tact that this one does. The religious themes in this story could have been handled very simply, but Flanagan never wants to give us the easy answer. Some of the story elements take too long to start truly making sense, but the conclusion is so satisfying that such a complaint sort of fades into the background. Some of the dialogue is a little too intellectual to the point that it doesn't feel authentic, but it's always engaging nonetheless. Each tragedy is explored so deeply and so personally that the shocking plot revelations become much more hard-hitting. This man knows how to write unique, compelling characters. ![]() From episode 1, I knew I was in for a treat from Mike Flanagan. And you know what? It is MAGNIFICENT at what it does. It is an extremely intelligent religious drama that contains some horror elements.

Clearly lost in the music, Eartheater even pantomimed the swirling of a wine glass, mirroring one of the motifs from the song’s stunning music video directed by Andrew Thomas Huang.Ībout halfway through the set, a fan shouted up from the crowd to compliment the artist’s look (she wore quilted black pants and a matching jacket lined with fur). Concrete Husband’s mélange of styles proved to be a perfect complement to the main event.įollowing the intermission, the lights dimmed. The sold-out venue, populated by avant-garde hats, huge thrifted pants, video game tees and monochromatically dressed retirees alike, gleefully hooted and danced along to the opener. The artist’s expansive sound and shockingly expressive flute made for an oddly moving performance, whose cinematic grandeur felt at home with more dance-forward tracks like “F**k Me in the Club.” The Brooklyn-based DJ and producer hit the stage with only a flute, switching between two microphones, one upstage and the other down. The night began with a 40-minute uninterrupted performance by Concrete Husband, a fellow experimentalist whose sound wavers between nightmarish techno overload and new age serenity. The first show of the east coast leg was held at The Sinclair in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the concert was as odd and unforgettable as the music itself. Just over a month after the release of her latest album, “Powders,” Eartheater has hit the road, taking her unmistakable style to venues around the world. For one, it makes sure that you have the phone's coils perfectly aligned with the charger coils - this ensures optimum charging time and reduces energy wasted. So, while it's technically not the same concept as the good old MagSafe, the new system in the iPhone 12 is pretty good for wireless chargers. Even better - MagSafe accessories can have a chip in them, which communicates with the iPhone and lets it know exactly what type of accessory is on it. This includes a wireless charger puck, which sticks really tight on there, as well as a wallet or even the new cases. For the first time ever, I feel like iOS has a bit of an Android flair to how it looks.īasically, MagSafe on the iPhone 12 is an array of magnets on the back, which allows you to stick different accessories to the phone. You no longer need to tuck the apps you want in a folder and hide it somewhere - you can literally delete them from the homescreen and look for them in the “Apps Gallery” (the iOS version of an app drawer). The second big feature is that iOS has a sort of an app drawer now. So, it’s still a bit of a drag to try and arrange your homescreen to make any kind of sense. Apple sure took its time with that one, we might even be at the point when widgets are no longer cool.īut before you start dreaming about arranging your widgets and icons in cool and handy shapes, let me be the bearer of bad news and tell you that iOS still doesn’t allow for empty spaces between icons. One is the support for widgets - anywhere on the homescreen. With the release of the iPhone 12, Apple also launched iOS 14, which brought about a bunch of new features and quality-of-life improvements to the ecosystem. Also, the 12 Pro Max has a slightly bigger sensor on its main camera, which helps for better Night Mode shots, and employs a new "sensor shift" stabilization method, where the sensor moves to compensate for hand-shake motions (while all other iPhone 12 models have a moving lens). And there's a bit of a difference to be observed here, too - the iPhone 12 Pro has a 2x magnification lens, whereas the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 2.5x zoom. Of course, the iPhone 12 Pro Max also has that gargantuan 6.7-inch screen, so if screen real estate is what you are really after, this model should be your top pick.īoth iPhone 12 Pro models add yet another 12 MP camera on the back - the telephoto camera. Its frame is stainless steel, as opposed to aluminum, and the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max colors are more "muted" and "serious" (aside from the gold version, which just screams "Bling!"). What are you missing out if you get the iPhone 12 vs the iPhone 12 Pro? The 12 Pro comes with a matte finish on the back glass, which feels quite nice, but is more slippery. ![]() Then, once again the glaciers would close off the migration route, effectively sealing off movement and isolating northern and southern North America once again. ![]() Among them were the first bison to colonize the new habitats of present-day CanadaĪnd the United States. There are two kinds of buffalo: the cape buffalo of Africa ( Syncerus caffer) and the water buffalo Many people are unsure whether to refer to this species as “bison” or “buffalo.” Technically, there are no true buffalo native to North America. I was 25, and I didn’t know where I’d be placed, how I would translate. When I entered this industry, I was older. To be honest, it’s not so much what I’m going for it’s what people see in me. I’ve noticed that in a handful of films - Fury Road, Neon Demon, Elizabeth Harvest - you’ve played these very stylized women who are avatars of male desire, and who end up violently rebelling against them. There are really deep reasons that I chose to do this film, like Elizabeth’s constant rebirth and the fairy-tale aspect of it, and then there’s reasons where I’m like, “That would be fucking fun.” Like, I got to hold a gun and bleed from the mouth and crawl out of a tank covered in ooze. It’s so rare for a woman to be handed a script that has this much gusto, where the female character is driving the film in a really sort of violent way. I’ve had some pretty heavy heartaches the past couple of years, and I’ve really tried and gone gung ho, but there has to be something that’s really exciting to me. I’m not saying I get handed everything that’s out there. I can really sort of craft my way a little bit. I’m financially stable, because I modeled for half of my life, so I don’t have to make decisions based on money. I was kind of keeping tabs on each girl so I could step in and out.ĭo you feel like you can be selective with the projects you take, or do you feel a pressure to commit to things because you’re newer to the film industry? I’d find a picture of a woman who reminds me of the essence of that Elizabeth, and I printed out cards and on the back I had a song for her, a nickname for her, her favorite food, her favorite color. There were some days where I had to play four Elizabeths in one day, so I gave them all a specific name. She’s also British and I made the decision that she was well-educated, which means she had a different set of manners to her, a different way of holding her neck up and stuff like that. I decided that she took ballet, which I’ve never done in my life, so I took ballet classes and that changed the way that I moved. I really went into detail about her past, which informed the physicality that I chose, which is very different from my own. It’s not the sort of film where you can just fucking wing that shit. I couldn’t build backstories for all of the Elizabeths separately, but I spent a lot of time writing a backstory about the original Elizabeth. Before Elizabeth Harvest debuts in theaters this weekend, Vulture got on the phone with Lee to talk about how she prepared for her most ambitious role yet, the tolerance for bullshit she developed while working in fashion, and what question she never, ever wants to answer again.ĭid each of your Elizabeths have a backstory, or was each one just a blank slate because she was reacting to the world anew? While her characters may conjure fantasy, they’re also adept at exploiting desire for its weakness and punishing those who would keep them prisoner. ![]() And now she’s starring in Elizabeth Harvest from Sebastian Gutierrez, a techno-modern telling of the story of Bluebeard, in which Lee plays multiple versions of the titular character - a woman who’s being fabricated in a lab and repeatedly murdered by her mad scientist husband (Ciarán Hinds).īut don’t make the mistake of counting her as just a pretty face. Nicolas Winding Refn cast her as his most vicious climber in The Neon Demon, a meditation on how we commoditize and worship beauty. George Miller gave Lee her screen debut with Mad Max: Fury Road, in which she played the Dag, the most eccentric member of the Many Wives collective. Her almost-supernatural beauty means filmmakers have sought her out for years to play otherworldly and alluring characters. ![]() Watching Australian actress Abbey Lee makes you wonder if the Men in Black isn’t a real agency welcoming visitors from other worlds to work and live on Earth. ![]() The 4Victory is a hammer primed pistol with the same capacity as the SS. As a secondary, it is superior in capacity only to very small blasters like the Triad, and is inferior in capacity to most pistol sized revolvers which are still smaller, like the Strongarm and Hammershot/Sweet Revenge. Obviously compared to clip (mag) system blasters (as a primary) the SS is totally pointless. Unfortunately, to accomodate its compact form and (really fun) gimmick the Secret Shot has had to be limited to only 4 shots, and that lack of capacity really limits its practical viability. While I personally wouldn't get it for its regular price, the sale price of 20AUD is more than reasonable. I'd say the price bracket is reasonable, considering it's a larger than usual multishot blaster with a neat gimmick. That price range puts it a little below the Retal and about the same as the Cycloneshock or Hammershot. The Secret Shot retails for around 25-30AUD, on sale it can be found for 20AUD fairly regularly. I can get all 4 darts out within about a second which is quite good for a small blaster. ![]() ![]() Rate of fire is surprisingly good, thanks to the short pump action stroke and slam-fire. From my accuracy testing I had several darts hit my door frame, though a slight majority did still pass through. It's quite consistent, though there is a little variance coming from the four barrels being smart AR cycled.Īccuracy is decent but not great, pretty standard for Elite-era Nerf blasters. Ranges of about 13m-ish with Elites is about standard. Its stiff prime comes from a stronger than usual spring, allowing it to keep up with the other Elite-era blasters. FPS shot, as mentioned before the Secret Shot has a very different profile to most blasters, its body is pretty much uniform and smooth. ![]() However, when a prediction is made as to what a submarine's crush depth might be, that prediction may subsequently be mistaken for the actual crush depth of the submarine. This is the result of compounding safety margins throughout the production chain, where at each point an effort is made to at least slightly exceed the required specifications to account for imperceptible material defects or variations in machining tolerances.Ī submarine, by definition, cannot exceed crush depth without being crushed. Technically speaking, the crush depth should be the same as the design depth, but in practice is usually somewhat deeper. Sometimes referred to as the " collapse depth" in the United States, this is the submerged depth at which the submarine implodes due to water pressure. From it the designers calculate the thickness of the hull metal, the boat's displacement, and many other related factors. The nominal depth listed in the submarine's specifications. Operating depth Īlso known as the maximum operating depth (or the never-exceed depth), this is the maximum depth at which a submarine is allowed to operate under any ( e.g. ![]() ![]() The test depth is set at two-thirds (0.66) of the design depth for United States Navy submarines, while the Royal Navy sets test depth at 4/7 (0.57) the design depth, and the German Navy sets it at exactly one-half (0.50) of design depth. This is the maximum depth at which a submarine is permitted to operate under normal peacetime circumstances, and is tested during sea trials. Each 10 metres (33 feet) of depth puts another atmosphere (1 bar, 14.7 psi, 101 kPa) of pressure on the hull, so at 300 metres (1,000 feet), the hull is withstanding thirty atmospheres (30 bar, 441 psi, 3,000 kPa) of water pressure. The outside water pressure increases with depth and so the stresses on the hull also increase with depth. The hull of a submarine must be able to withstand the forces created by the outside water pressure being greater than the inside air pressure. The depths to which submarines can dive are limited by the strengths of their hulls.
